BENGALURU: The issue of auto fare hikes has resurfaced in the city and is likely to affect passengers significantly. According to Auto Drivers’ Unions, spare parts prices have increased and hiking the fare is necessary to maintain their vehicle.
Hence, the Auto Drivers Union members have requested the deputy commissioner to raise auto fares from Rs 15 to Rs 20 per kilometre.
Manjunath, an auto drivers’ union, leader, stated that auto fares typically increase every two to three years. This time, the union has requested a fare hike similar to the previous one. The Regional Transport Authority chairman, in-charge, deputy commissioner will review the request, assisted by various officials, including those from the Transport department, Weights and Measures department, Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic), and a representative from the Consumer Forum.
The district administration hiked the auto fares from Rs 15 to Rs 20 in the last two to three years, and the revised fare will be confirmed within 15 days.
