TUMAKURU: Grains of chemical fertiliser were allegedly found in rice distributed through the public distribution system (PDS) at Yerrammanahalli in Pavagada taluk.

Villagers, who bought rice at the fair price depot in the village were shocked to find grains urea and complex fertilisers in it before cooking. Anxious villagers immediately complained to the Food and Civil Supplies Department following which a food inspector visited the village and checked the PDS rice.

When Pavagada food inspector Manjunath carried out an inspection, he also found fertiliser in the rice bags stored in the PDS shop. The department is conducting further inquiry.

The Rashtriya Kisan Sangha state president said, “Who will be responsible for the health of the poor people? This is plain cheating and injustice to the poor. All those responsible should be immediately suspended”.
