At 73.19 pc voting, Karnataka beats its own record

BENGALURU: Karnataka, which witnessed voting for the 224-member Assembly on May 10, has witnessed a record high of 73.19 per cent voting as per the latest figures.

Provisional data put out by the Election Commission late on Wednesday night said the state witnessed a voter turnout of 72.81 per cent, said to be the highest since 1957. In 2018, the state had witnessed voter turnout of 72.13 per cent.

While the highest voting was recorded in Chikkaballapur district at 85.56 per cent, the lowest voting was in BBMP South at 52.33 per cent. Except for Bengaluru, all other districts have witnessed over 65 per cent voting.

The voting percentage in BBMP Central was 55.50 per cent, in BBMP North 52.59 per cent and BBMP South 52.33 per cent. While Bangalore Rural district recorded 85.08 per cent voting, Bangalore Urban saw only 57.71 per cent voting. In the other districts, only Kalaburagi (66.43 per cent) and Yadgir (68.77 per cent) recorded voting below 70 per cent.

Of the registered 5,30,85,566 voters, 3,88,51,807 exercised their franchise on Wednesday. The turnout among male voters was 73.68 per cent and 72.70 per cent among women voters and 21.05 per cent among Others.
