BENGALURU: The Anekal police have arrested seven people, six of whom are notorious history-sheeters too, for sale and possession of illegal firearms. The police are also expected to arrest some influential politicians and a real estate businessmen in connection with the case.
A team of the Anekal police, led by Inspector Prakash, arrested Pradeep Ramesh, Manoj a.k.a Jacky, Rizwan Pasha a.k.a Kulla Rizwan, Nanjappa a.k.a Deadly Nanja, Venkataraju a.k.a Tukadi, Gopi a.k.a Sunavara Gopi, and Shivraj and seized five country-made pistols along with ten bullets from them.
A police team on patrol noticed one person standing suspiciously with a bag near Haldenahalli railway gate near Anekal on August 14. On checking, the bag, three country-made pistols and ten bullets were found. Police took accused into custody and interrogated him.
Investigation revealed a huge racket in sale of illegal country-made pistols with Dawood of Bed Ghat village in Madhya Pradesh identified as the kingpin of racket. Through Pradeep Ramesh, Dawood had dispatched the firearms to Anekal by train. Ramesh had come to Haldenahalli railway station in Anekal and was waiting to deliver the guns when he was caught red-handed.
During questioning, Ramesh informed about sale of two country-made pistols, one to history-sheeter Kulla Rizwan of KG Halli and another to notorious history-sheeter Manoj @ Jacky. The country-made pistols illegally possessed by both were seized and the remaining accused who were in contact with the gun supplier arrested.
The police tame was headed Inspector Prakash and Sub-Inspector Siddanagouda. A case has been registered at the Anekal police station and further investigation is under way. Sources said the arrest of politicians, real estate businessmen is likely in the coming days.
