CHAMARAJANAGAR, YADGIR: A bandh was observed in Chamarajnagar and Shahpur towns in protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament regarding Dr B R Ambedkar.
In Chamarajanagar, it was left to schools and colleges to declare a holiday while KSRTC services were suspended for some time. While shops and businesses remained closed, there was mixed response to the bandh call.
When the protesters tried to burn tyres at the Bhuvaneshwari Circle, the police objected to it, leading to a verbal clash. Later, the police took away the tyres.
In Shahpur town, traders extended support to the bandh call and all business were shut through the day. Bus services were also stopped, inconveniencing commuters.
