Alert in Dakshina Kannada district after Kerala youth tests positive for monkeypox

MANGALURU: With a Kerala youth who travelled through the Mangaluru International Airport testing positive for monkeypox, a high alert has been sounded in the district. The youth had proceeded to Kannur from Mangaluru airport and is currently being at the Pariyaram Medical College there.

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has isolated 34 people who were in contact with the infected person. They include 11 travellers from Dakshina Kannada district, seven from Udupi, 10 Mangaluru city and one from Puttur.

In Kerala, the health authorities have isolated 16 peope who came in contact with the infected youth.

The health condition of all those in isolation is being strictly monitored. As per protocol, the primary/secondary contacts have been confined to home isolation for 21 days.

Also, arrangements have been made for screening of all passengers arriving at the Mangaluru International Airport.
