BELAGAVI: An elderly couple were brutally assaulted and issued death threats after their neighbour’s pet dog died at Kalmeshwar Nagar here. With serious injuries, the couple had to be hospitalised.
Shanta Rajayi and Bhairu Rajayi, the elderly couple, were assaulted by Sugandha Lad and her son Nandu Lad. Shanta’s hand was broken, and husband Bhairu sustained serious head injuries. After receiving treatment at Belagavi BIMS Hospital, the family approached the Police Commissioner’s office.
The Rajayi and Lad families are neighbours. A dog owned by the Lad family died under suspicious circumstances. Accusing them of killing the dog, the Lads carried out a deadly assault though the elderly couple said they had no connection with the dog’s death. Despite this, the Lad family is issuing death threats.
The couple has demanded protection and action against the assailants. The elderly couple submitted a request to Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase. A case has been registered at Belagavi APMC police station.
