BENGALURU: A division bench of the Karnataka High Court has granted divorce to actor Duniya Vijay and his wife Nagarathna on grounds of cruelty. The order was issued by a bench of Justices DK Singh and Shantibhushan.

Vijay has been ordered to give Rs 2 crore alimony as one-time settlement to Nagarathna within three months. He also has to bear complete responsibility of the three children, a son and two daughters.

Vijay’s lawyers argued that Nagarathna has a own house and is getting rent from one house. They argued that Vijay suffered due to cruelty by Nagarathna. Vijay had approached the High Court against the family court order. Senior lawyers S Shrivatsa and Yukta Anil argued on behalf of Duniya Vijay.

In a social media post, Duniya Vijay noted, “A heartfelt request to all fans and media friends who have stood by me throughout my life. I bow down with prostration to the court order and surrender. My faith in law has increased even more. Considering the mental cruelty upon me, I bow to the order of Hon’ble High Court Justices Shri D.K. Singh and Shri Shantibhushan. My respectful thanks to this order. Likewise I offer my heartfelt thanks to my lawyers Senior Counsel Shrivatsa and Yukta Anil.”

“Regarding this matter I do not wish to speak either in media or publicly. My daughters are adults and have earned their own position in society; they should not face any embarrassment. For the future and welfare of children, I have accepted the court order given regarding my personal family matter with conscience, and from here I am stepping towards a journey of new life. May your blessings and good wishes continue like this. Thank you, Yours Duniya Vijay”, he concluded.
