BENGALURU: Actor Chetan Kumar aka Chetan ‘Ahimsa’, who is known for his controversial stand on various issues has reacted to the Central government’s view on ‘same-sex marriage’ as ‘urban elitist view’ saying that it is not true. He also said he trusts the Supreme Court will give justice to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+) communities.

Two days ago, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that the petitions seeking legal recognition of same-sex marriage merely reflect urban elitist views and cannot be compared to what reflects the views and voices of a far wider spectrum and expands across the country.

Actor Chetan, opposing the Central government’s views, posted on Twitter saying, ‘On Monday, the Centre told Supreme Court that demand for same-sex marriage is ‘same-sex marriage’ is ‘urban elitist view’. Not true ‘Hetero-normative’ society with its in-built prvileges has relegated marriage as between man and woman. It should be between two consenting adults. We trust SC will give justice to LGBTQ+ Indians.
