BENGALURU: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reduced the Metro fares by a small margin after facing criticism from commuters. The fare hike was initially 80 per cent-100 per cent, but now it has been reduced by Rs 10 in some cases.
However, students who reacted to this move on Public TV, expressed disappointment. They pointed out that BMRCL had initially announced a 50 per cent hike, but implemented a 100 per cent increase, only to reduce it to 70 per cent later. They questioned the logic behind this move. Some commuters are skeptical about the fare reduction, wondering if it’s just a temporary measure.
BMRCL sources told Public TV that the fare reduction is permanent and won’t be changed again. Even though the fare has been increased by 70 per cent in some places, it is doubtful that the Metro ticket price will change again. “The fare cannot be reduced again. The fare has been increased as per the fare revision committee. There were some mistakes in the stage and price slabs. The mistake has been corrected, and the fare has been changed from today. The ticket price will not be reduced again for any reason”, they pointed out.
Initially, the Metro fare from Yeshwantpur to Majestic was Rs 25. After the revision, it increased to Rs 50. Now, it has been reduced to Rs 40. Compared to the initial fare, this is still a 60 per cent increase.
Here is the revised Metro fare against the old:
- The fare from Rajajinagar to Lalbagh has been reduced from Rs 50 to Rs 40, while from Peenya to Central College has been reduced from Rs 60 to Rs 50.
- The ticket price from Garudachar Palya to MG Road has been reduced from Rs 60 to Rs 50, while from Mysuru Road to Indiranagar has been reduced from Rs 70 to Rs 60.
- The fare from Cubbon Park to Benniganahalli remains unchanged at Rs 40, previously it was Rs 50. Meanwhile, Metro fare from Sandal Soap Factory to Byappanahalli has been reduced from Rs 70 to Rs 60.
