BENGALURU: The Kumbalgod police have arrested a Bihar native who had fled to his home state after murdering his wife and wrapping her body in a bedsheet at their house at Gerupalya in Kumbalgod police limits on July 27.
The accused Dheeraj Kumar (24) arrested dheeraj had gone to Bihar and was hiding after murdering his wife Reema Kumari (20). A foul smell in the house was noticed when a friend came to their house and informed the police. Reema Kumari’s body was found in a decomposed state. Dheeraj had strangled and killed his wife, left the body after wrapping it in a bedsheet and fled.
The couple had come to Bengaluru in December last year for work and were employed in an industrial unit in Gerupalya. They had married without informing their families and initially, both were very close. However, differences cropped between the two and they would fight often.
Following his arrest, Dheeraj told the police that his wife was addicted to reels, would not serve his food or consent to sexual relations. She would cook only as much as she needed, eat and go to sleep. This led to frequent fights between the two, he said.
Also, the wife was insisting on going back to Bihar. On the day Reema was killed, Dheeraj came home, but there was no food at home. Then a small fight started between the two Later, the husband called his wife to bed, but Reema did not agree to that either and hence, the fight escalated. Dheeraj first hit his wife with a stick and strangled her neck with a belt. He then wrapped her face with plastic and killed her before fleeing to Bihar.
Southwest Division DCP Anitha Haddannanavar said, “On July 29, a woman’s body was found in Gerupalya, Kumbalgodu. The couple was living on the fourth floor of a building. The husband killed his wife and escaped. Dheeraj and Reema had come to Bengaluru 10 months ago. They fell in love in Bihar, came to Bengaluru, got married and were living here. Dheeraj and Reema were doing daily wage work. After Dheeraj killed his wife, a team was formed and sent to Bihar. Police arrested the accused and produced him before the court”.
A case has been registered at Kumbalgodu police station and further investigation is under way.
