BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar defended the police actions during the recent attack on the Udayagiri police station in Mysuru. Shivakumar stated that the police did their job properly and handled the situation well, even though some officers were injured.

“There is no fault on the part of the police. I will stand by police”, Shivakumar said. Speaking to the media, he said, “At this time, it does not matter who said what. I am saying this as the Deputy CM. There is no fault on the part of the police. The police acted correctly, they handled the situation well. Even the injured policemen acted with a sense of time. I am on the side of our police”, he said.

Through this, he expressed support for the police and indirectly countered Minister Rajanna’s statement. “What someone else says is not important. As Deputy Chief Minister, I am saying that the police did nothing wrong”, Shivakumar said.

Meanwhile, Hindu activists filed a complaint against KPCC spokesperson Laxman for his allegations against the BJP and RSS. The activists demanded action against Laxman.

The violence in Udayagiri was allegedly triggered by a provocative speech by Muslim leader Mufti Mushtaq. A video related to this incident has gone viral. The CCB police have launched a hunt for Musthaq and the rioters, and have so far taken eight accused into custody.
