History-sheeter shot at in suspected murder bid on Belagavi outskirts

BELAGAVI: A history-sheeter, a resident of Shahunagar here, was shot by unknown assailants on the outskirts of Ganeshpur in Belagavi taluk.

Some unidentified assailants opened fire targeting history-sheeter Praful Patil. He was shot at while returning home from Belagundi village. The assailants fired at his moving car, but luckily the bullet hit the windshield, saving his life. However, the glass shards injured his face and head. Patil is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The police are investigating the case, and Belagavi City Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang visited the hospital and also inspected the car, which was parked in front of the hospital.

Martin stated that the incident occurred at 3 am and Patil is under observation. “The police are investigating all dimensions, including a possible connection to a previous case involving Patil”, he added.

Patil has been involved in 18 cases and was arrested six months ago for attempting to murder Raju Kadolkar on June 16, 2024. He was released on bail and had been exiled by the police for six months before he returned recently. The police suspect that the shooting might be related to an old rivalry.

The police commissioner further said that nt complaint was lodged, but a case has been registered and an investigation is under way. “We got information about firing. He was working in real estate. He is a rowdy sheeter and has returned after his externment. There was a case recently in which he was released. We are investigating from all angles”, he said.
