Kalaburagi police reunite kidnapped newborn with mother in swift operation

KALABURAGI: Three kidnappers who abducted a newborn baby from the district hospital and sold it for Rs 50,000 have been arrested by the Kalaburagi police.

The police earned praise appreciation from the family of the nursing mother Kasturi and the public for their swift operation, tracing the child in 36 hours. They handed over the baby to its mother today.

Two women, dressed as nurses, abducted a newborn from the district hospital here in the wee hours on Monday. The accused Umera, Nasreen, and Fatima, residents of MS Kemmi Layout, were arrested.

The three kidnappers, part of a gang, kidnapped the newborn and sold it to a woman named Khairun for Rs 50,000. After the kidnapping incident was aired on television, locals informed the police, who promptly rescued the baby and reunited it with its mother Kasturi.

The police have launched a search for Khairun, who escaped. The baby is currently receiving treatment at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of GIMS Hospital.

Police commissioner Sharanappa has praised the team, including ACP Bhoothegowda and CPIs Somaling Kiradalli and Raghavendra Bhajantri, for their swift action. Further investigation is on.
