BENGALURU: Congress candidate for the Channapatna bypoll, C P Yogeshwar, on Thursday afternoon filed his nomination. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar were also present at the time of nomination.

Channapatna will go for by-polls on November 13. The results will be announced on November 23. After the filing of nomination, CM Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that Yogeshwar would win the bypoll. “All our leaders and our party are 200 percent confident that CP Yogeshwar will win…”

On being asked that Channapatna has never witnessed a one-way battle, Deputy CM Shivakumar told reporters, “…Yogeshwar will make the difference, and we will win the seat comfortably…”

Yogeshwara seemed confident of wresting the seat from the JDS, “With the blessings of our CM and Deputy CM, I am going to contest this election and I hope that I win.” Yogeshwar is a five-time former MLA from Channapatna, the seat vacated by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy after he won the Lok Sabha polls.

The party released its list of candidates for the Assembly by-elections in Assam’s Behali, Karnataka’s Sandur, and Channapatna. For Karnataka, the Congress has chosen E Annapurna for the Sandur (ST) seat and CP Yogeshwar for Channapatna.

The bypolls to 48 constituencies are spread over 15 states — Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

On October 15, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced by-polls for 48 Assembly constituencies and two Parliamentary seats that will occur in two phases alongside the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections.

Voting for the first phase, covering 47 Assembly constituencies and the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala will take place on November 13. The counting of votes will take place on November 23. (ANI) (ANI)
