BENGALURU: Several parts of the city were inundated after the heavy rain on Saturday night. Many arterial road and aparment complexes saw waterlogging, causing hardship to motorists and residents.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) helpline was flooded with calls and many complained that their calls were not received or there was delay in attending to the calls.
At Binnypet, a compound wall collapsed, leading to dirty water from Park West apartment complex entering New Binnypet. Just seconds before the wall fell, two men could be seen on CCTV camera parking their motorcycle and entering a house. At least 20 two-wheelers were damaged as a 20-foot-length of the 10-feet high compound wall collapsed around 8 pm on Saturday.
Residents of the 600 flats at Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka were trapped in their homes as rain water inundated the apartment complex. Vehicles parked in the basement, including more than 400 cars and 600 two-wheelers, were also flooded. Firemen used tractors and goods vehicles to move people out of the apartment complex.
In Mahadevapura, the road connecting Balagere and Kundalahalli was flooeded, affecting traffic movement. At Malleswaram 17th Cross, two trees had fallen after the rain, damaging electricity poles. The BBMP staff cleared the fallen trees on Sunday morning. Another huge tree had fallen on the BWSSB pipeline road in Jalahalli while a tree fall was reported at Judicial Layout in Yelahanka too. A tree fell on a neighbouring house near the ITC Green Centre while a Nilgiri tree was uprooted on Link Road in Goraguntepalya.
Flooding was also reported at Kogilu Cross, where a compound wall of an apartment complex collapsed. Water entered homes in Basaveshwara Nagar, Puttenahalli, Yelahanka and other places. Bengaluru received an average of 36 mm of rain on Saturday night. Here’s a look:
