BENGALURU: Residents of Dasarahalli are struggling to get Cauvery water despite paying for the connection. They have approached the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) multiple times, but haven’t received any positive response. Now, they are forced to rely on tankers, spending around Rs 6,000 for water.
Locals expressed their outrage at BBMP, saying that those who have paid for the connection should get the water. Residents say they are spending money like water as they have to shell out about Rs 6,000-Rs 7,000 for tankers. The “Cauvery water pipeline has been laid, we have paid the deposit for the connection, but piped water is a mirage”, they rued.
Residents expressed their outrage at BWSSB and said that at least those who have paid for the connection should get Cauvery water.
Local Resident Tyagraju said, “We are facing problems, it is like a do-or-die situation for us. We are spending Rs 6,000-Rs 7,000 per month for water. The Cauvery pipeline has been laid and we have paid for the connection. All the construction was completed, but BWSSB is not providing Cauvery water. The inauguation date is being put off all the time. There is no guarantee of getting Cauvery water supply even today. All the borewells get dried up due to a shortage of rainfall. Let BWSSB officials take action against those who are not working. We have done everything possible to reach them, but to no avail. We are still suffering”.
Another resident, Saraswati, said, “We have deposited money with the BWSSB for the water connection. I have paid Rs 3 lakh for the water connection, but even today I do not get water. What about the interest on the money we have paid? Where is justice? The BWSSB claimed that the residents of villages do not want water connections. All those are just excuses. We are demanding it as we have paid for it. They set August 21 as the deadline and we are still waiting. I am spending Rs 9,000 every month to get tanker water.”
Dasarahalli MLA S Muniraju says the issue is not just limited to 110 villages, but the entire Dasarahalli constituency is facing a water crisis. He said he has requested the authorities to resolve the issue soon. “There is pending work in Turahalli forest. The BWSSB is not resolving the existing problems. There is no water pressure in Dasarahalli”, he pointed out.
