10 staffers seriously injured after LPG cylinder explodes in Kalaburagi hotel

KALABURAGI: Ten people were injured, seven of them seriously, after an LPG cylinder exploded at the Saptagiri Orange Hotel near Appakere here on Friday morning. The condition of four of the injured is said to be serious and two of the injured were shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru while the others were taken to Miraj in Maharashtra.

The hotel building was completely damaged due to the impact of the explosion. The staff were preparing to cook breakfast items when they noticed gas leak in one of the cylinders and ran out. After about 10 minutes, they headed back to the kitchen when the leaking cylinder exploded.

The injured included Satyavan Sharma, Rakesh, Mahesh, Vitthal, Gurumurthy, Apparao and Mallinath who were in the kitchen. There were no customers in the hotel as it opens for business at 8 am. The firefighters had a tough time controlling the blaze.

Police Commissioner Chetan R said the blast occurred due to LPG leak and more details will be available after the Fire and Emergency Services files a report. An FSL team visited the spot and a case has been registered at the Pramhapura police staton.
