BENGALURU: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has collected Rs 5.38 crore in fines from 10.76 lakh passengers for loitering at metro stations in less than a year.

Just last week, a youth was fined Rs 50 for loitering for 20 minutes at the Vijayanagar metro station last week. The BMRCL has implemented several rules and regulations in view of commuters’ safety and security in Namma Metro.

As per information available, 10.75 lakh passengers have been fined by the BMRCL for loitering at Metro stations between June last year until now. It has collected Rs 5.38 crore from over 10 lakh people by imposing a fine of Rs 50 per person.

A Namma Metro official said that they came up with the rule in view of security and safety. But, the decision of the BMRCL has evoked mixed reactions from Metro passengers and netizens on social media who want the transport utility to axe the rule.
