BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, two sisters were stripped and assaulted at their residence over repayment of a loan at Neriga village in Dommasandra under Sarjapur police limits in the city.
A complaint has been lodged against three persons — Ramakrishna Reddy, the money lender, Sunil Kumar and Indiramma. While Ramakrishna Reddy and Sunil Kumar have bee arrested, the police are yet to arrest Indiramma.
The family of the victims has alleged that the police refused to lodge a complaint for two days. They did so only after public outrage.
According to the complaint, one of the victims had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh at a high interest rate 30 per cent from from Ramakrishna Reddy, a resident of the same village, for her children’s education.
However, she was asked to repay the entire loan amount in one go. The villagers had brokered an agreement that once they sell their land, the victim will repay the loan amount. Despite this, the accused barged into their residence and assaulted and disrobed the sisters.
The victims had approached the Sarjapur police station in connection with the incident, but it is alleged that Inspector Raghavendra Imbrapur refused to lodge the complaint. He allegedly asked the victims to negotiate with the accused for a settlement.
Meanwhile, the videos of the assault went viral on social media, creating public outrage against the police and the accused. The police finally called the victims to the station and registered a complaint on Tuesday night.
