BELAGAVI: Railway authorities have been engaged in clearing debris on the railway track near Dudhsagar for more than 40 hours after a massive landslide forced suspension of train services on the route.
South-Western Railway Hubballi division general manager Sanjeev Kishore visited the spot and oversaw the restoration operations for over three hours.
Later, speaking to media persons, he said a massive landslide had occurred just in front of a tunnel near the Dudhsagar Falls. “Due to this, railway services to Goa have been temporarily suspended. We are carrying out work to clear the track over the last two days in shifts despite the rain”.
The railway official said more than 200 people are involved in clearing the track and added that it may take two more days for train services to resume. He also sought the cooperation of railway passengers till they are able to clear the tracks and resume railway services on the route. The rail route conects to Goa, Delhi and Kolkata.
The landslide occurred at Karanjol near the Castle Rock railway station in Uttara Kannada district and 10 excavators are also being used to clear the tracks
