BENGALURU: The city’s notorious traffic is a hellish torment for motorists. Just the other day, during the Navaratri festival, it took 6-7 hours to cross Bengaluru limits. Now, the traffic police have initiated various steps to ease movement of vehicles.

The city witnesses kilometre-long traffic jams on weekends and during festivals. The traffic police have cleared 53 unnecessary road humps on city roads, and have written to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) stating that slow moving traffic is a result of such unwanted speed breakers.

To avoid road accidents, nine speed breakers near junctions and traffic signal should be removed. Due to the speed breakers, even after the signal turns green, vehicles are delayed in going. Likewise, at 257 places in the city, there are potholes near signals and roads are damaged, Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Karthik Reddy has written to the GBA chief commissioner.

“Last year, we had written to the GBA stating that 53 speed breakers were not necessary. We have also recently identified nine places where there are road humps at junctions or traffic signals which are slowing down traffic and 257 places where there are potholes or bad roads”, told Public TV.
