BENGALURU: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi pitched for the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code, stating that one country cannot have separate personal laws for different sections, voices of dissent are also being heard. Now, Hindu organisations in the state have started a signature campaign in support of the Uniform Civil Code. The Sri Rama Sena plans to start the campaign in public places.
Pramod Muthalik, founder of Sri Rama Sena, said that, “There are no two separate laws in other countries. Indians are free to practice any customs. In this country, some people have a special privilege making laws according to religion. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is very essential to our country in view of equality, unity and safety of the nation. We will bring pressure on the Prime Minister through the signature campaign and raise awareness amongĀ public about UCC”.
With the Lok Sabha elections slated to be held next year, the BJP government at the Centre seems to planning to implement the Uniform Civil Code, but Muslim and Christian communities are opposing its implementation.
On the other hand, Hindu organisations are supporting the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. The Sri Rama Sene workers will collect at least five lakh signatures in the state with the aim of supporting the implementation of UCC, he added
“There are many castes and religions in the country, but there can’t be individual laws for different groups. The government is taking steps to implement UCC to bring about equality. We will collect signatures in many public places, including bus stops, parks, malls, etc”, Mutalik added.
