Emerging from the meeting, Shivakumar told reporters, “Many people have contributed to the growth of the city which has a population of about 1.25 crore with a floating population of about 40 lakh. We discussed about implementing various development projects and I have instructed them that there should be no double or triple billing for the same works. The city should be citizen-friendly. Earlier, the city ws getting a lot of funds from the Centre, which has stopped now. We will hold elections to the BBMP council at the earliest.”
The Deputy CM also said pothole filling work should be videographed and the Palike should be free of corruption and citizens should be treated with respect. “The Palike should also look at ways to raise resources on its own for the different works”, he added.
The Deputy CM later headed to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) with commissioner Kumar Naik, Urban Development secretary Rajesh Singh and other officials.
Shivakumar also visited NPS School in Rajajinagar, his alma mater, for the first time after taking over as Deputy CM. “I did my primary education here and my children too studied here. The NPS is India’s first autonomous school and has set a benchmark. We have announced in our manifesto to construct Navodaya-type schools at the panchayat level and I have discussed about this with Gopalakrishna”, he said.
