RAICHUR: A child development project officer (CDPO), along with the police, prevented a child marriage at Galaga village in Devadurga taluk recently.
A 16-year-old girl, who had completed her 10th standard was to be married off to a youth from the same village. Acting on credible information, the CDPO and the police visited the family and prevented the marriage.
The officials have taken an undertaking from the girl’s parents that they will not get her married off before the legal age and shifted the girl to the Bal Mandir. The girl had completed her Class 10 only in April and the parents had fudged her age on her Aadhaar card.
