Man poisons neighbour’s dog for barking, pet owner files complaint

BENGALURU: A man tried to kill his neighbour’s dog by throwing a poisoned bun in front of the gate on Modi Hospital Road in Rajajinagar on Monday. He was angry that the dog was barking while he was walking on the footpath near the house.

In CCTV footage, Sethuram, a retired government official, can be seen throwing a poisoned bun inside the gate to kill the two and a half-year-old Great Dane named Bravo. The owner of the dog, Saroja, has alleged that her neighbour has attempted to kill the dog many times.

The owner of the dog has lodged a complaint against her neighbour with the Mahalakshmi Layout police station. The police called Sethuram and warned him. The owner alleged that he has been trying to kill the dog for a year, but the police had not taken any strict actin against him.

On an earlier occasion, the poisoned dog was admitted to the city’s RMV Multi-speciality Veterinary Clinic for treatment. The dog owner had also informed the Animal Welfare Association about the incident. The medical reports showed that the dog had been poisoned. A case was filed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and it is pending before a city court.

“My neighbour is trying to kill our dog from last year for barking too much. For us, he is a part of the family, and he protects us. We tie our dog inside the gate to keep an eye on visitors. Sethuram threw a poisoned bun, but that day I saw it. We immediately went to the police station to file a complaint after seeing the act on CCTV”, said Saroja, the dog owner.
