MANGALURU: The police have taken five people, including an Indian Union Muslim league(IUML) leader, into custody for allegedly threatening a Kasargod dentist and abetting his suicide. The accused have been identified as IUML secretary and trader Ali Thuppakallu, IUML leader of Badiadka Mohammed Haneef, Ashraf, Mohammed Shiabudin, and Umarul Farooq.
A few days ago, the completely mutilated body of Dr Krishnamurthy, a dentist, was found on the railway tracks in Kundapur . The dentist had been running a clinic for over 30 years at Badiadka. On November 8, four people assaulted him after a woman at his clinic accused him of harassment.
Upset over this, he had gone missing the same day leaving behind his mobile phone and motorcycle. Family members and locals had alleged that some people were pressuring the dentist to sell his land.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishath had called for a ‘Hartal’ in Badiadka town on Sunday to protest against the death of the dentist.
