MYSURU: Congress MLA from Narasimharaja constituency, Tanveer Sait, who stoked a controvery suggesting that a statue of Tipu Sultan should be installed either in Mysuru or in Srirangapatna, on Saturday reiterated his demand and said that the community leaders will meet and decide whether it should be made of bronze, iron or panchaloha.

Though idolatry is not allowed in Islam, Sait has suggested installing a 100-foot-tall statue of the Srirangapatna ruler and said discussions will be held with community and religious leaders in this regard. A museum highlighting the reign of Tipu Sultan is also planned.

Reacting to Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Mutalik’s remark that they will destroy the Tipu statue if it is installed, Sait said they will not be cowed down by such threats.

Meanwhile, a satirical play on Tipu Sultan is set to be staged at the theatre repertoire Rangayana in Mysuru this month. Referring to this, Tanveer Sait said he is planning to approach court and seek a stay on staging of the play.
