BENGALURU: Sudden cardiac death (SCD) among youngsters is becoming a major problem. Doctors at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICR) in the city have now undertaken a research to identify the reasons for the increasing instances of heart ailments among youngsters.
According to the doctors, cardiac diseases are more common in youngsters due to excessive stress, smoking, drug abuse, air and land pollution, unhealthy lifestyle and many other factors. Many times, youngsters who do not have any heart-related diseases have sudden cardiac death. More than 30 per cent of young people die of sudden cardiac death.
Many cases of heart ailments among the young have been reported at hospitals across the state. Heart attacks in patients aged as young as 15 to 25 have been reported at hospitals. While 70 per cent of cases of death among youngsters can be attributed to some factors, 30 per cent of the cases are unexplained. Doctors advise youngsters to maintain a healthy routine and lifestyle.
