BALLARI: A case of honour killing has come to light after a father killed his daughter for being in a relationship with a boy from another caste at Jangama Colony in Kudathini town on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Gagana Shri (15). Omkara Gowda, the girl’s father, found out about her relationship with a boy from another caste. He had given several warnings to her to stay away from the boy. But she did not listen and continued the relationship. The father was upset and angered by this, it is alleged.
On October 31, Omkarappa took his daughter to a movie, then took her to a restaurant, had gone to a temple and bought her gold ornaments. When they arrived near the high-level canal late at night, he asked her to wait until he returned. Later, he pushed her into the canal where she drowned and died.
Despite the girl’s cries for help, the father did not help her. He left his bike at his friend’s house and went to Tirupati overnight. The girl’s mother and brother registered a missing person’s complaint at the police station.
The father was arrested on his way back from Tirupati and he confessed his crime to police. A case has been registered at Kudathini police station. The police are looking for the girl’s body and further investigation is going on.
