HASSAN: The body of an aged woman was found in a plastic bag in the canal near Bettadahalli village, Arkalgud taluk on Tuesday night. The victim was identified as Lakshmamma (67) Hirihallikoppal village and it is suspected that she was murdered for her gold ornaments, the body stuffed in a bag and thrown into the canal.
Lakshmamma was living with husband Annegowda. Last Saturday, she had left home saying she is visiting Viji Koppal. She had been missing since then. On Tuesday, the husband Annegowda went to the police station to file a complaint about his wife going missing. Around the same time, Lakshmamma was found dead in a plastic bag in the canal.
About 120 grams gold jewellery that was on Lakshmamma’s body has been stolen. Lakshmamma always used to wear gold jewellery and it is suspected that she was killed for the gold jewellery. Police Superintendent Shubhanvita visited the spot and the Konanur police, under Circle Police Inspector Vasanth have taken up further investigation.
