BENGALURU: After the Lokayukta issued a notice to the Bengaluru West City Corporation Commissioner over improper garbage disposal, the Corporation Commissioner has taken class of officials and also suspended an engineer. The commissioner has also decided to hold engineers responsible if garbage black spots not cleaned.

The Karnataka Lokayukta issued notice to corporation commissioner including senior officials for of not managing the garbage problem properly in Bengaluru West City Corporation limits. It was found that hotel waste, animal waste and building demolition debris were being dumped indiscriminately in areas like Vijayanagar, RPC Layout, Shamanna Garden, Pipeline Road and Sunkadakatte etc. The Lokayukta had noted that this is causing severe damage to public health.

Immediately after issuing notice, Bengaluru West City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra K V has given instruction to engineers to clean garbage black spots and ensure that they don’t resurface again. He also took officials to task for not cleaning garbage black spots. The problem accentuated due to the protest by pourakarmikas.
“We have cleaned all garbage black spots and suspended one engineer. Henceforth, if garbage black spots are found, the engineers concerned will be held responsible”, he informed. The commissioner has given strict instruction for removal of garbage black spot. Whether action will be taken to ensure garbage black spots do not spring up again remains to be seen.
