BENGALURU: In a major embarrassment to the DK Shivakumar-led government, which just completed 100 days in power, a Finance department letter, which mentioned that there are no funds for new schemes, was leaked to the media, prompting the chief minister to declare that he will order an inquiry.
The Finance Department letter mentioned that there are no funds for any new scheme not already announced in the Budget. It also raised concern about the financial status of the government and said there is no scope for new loan also.
The letter pointed out that thousands of crores of rupees are pending to many departments even as there are huge pending bills in various departments. There are financial constraints to carry out relief work for severe drought itself and, in such situation, new schemes are absolutely not needed, it mentioned.
The Finance Department has rejected certain previous Cabinet proposals raising questions about the announcements made after the recent Cabinet meeting held in Mangaluru. It is expected that the CM will hold a meeting of tax departments and look for solution.
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has also has taken Finance Department letter leak seriously. “I will trace who leaked the letter written by Finance Department. The letter was kept confidential, but still, someone leaked it to the media. The Additional Chief Secretary is on leave and after he returns, we will discuss the issue as we need to know who leaked the letter. I will give a clarification regarding Finance Department letter in one or two days”, the CM said.
