BENGALURU: Amidst the deficit rainfall, the Sun has been scorching down on the state with morning and night temperature increasing. Though officially monsoon season, a summer-like situation is prevailing, with the maximum temperature nearing a 75-year record heat. The Sun has been beating down on Bengaluru for the last two weeks.
In Bengaluru, where it is normally cool in the month of September, a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius was recorded recently. This is the highest temperature recorded in September in last one decade. On September 16, 1951, the highest of 33.3 degrees Celsius was recorded and till now, this has been a record temperature for September month. This year Bengaluru heat has reached near the all-time record temperature of 75 years.
This July, when the southwest monsoon was weakening, a high of 33.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bengaluru city. This surpassed the record of 33.3 degrees Celsius maximum temperature recorded in July 1914 and 1926, making it a historic record as the hottest July day in as many as 112 years.
In the same pattern, temperature is increasing once again in September and reached near the record heat, with the possibility of surpassing the 75-year record. The main reasons for the increase in temperature are rain shortage due to weak monsoon, El Nino effect and lack of green cover.
Not only in the mornings, the minimum temperature at night time also has increased two-three degrees Celsius. Usually, it is 18 or 19 degrees Celsius in September, but this time, it has increased to 21 to 22 degrees. As result more heat is being experienced at night time, feeling like summer itself. Although there is forecast of light rain for the next one week, it is said that the rising heat may haunt in the morning time.
