SHIVAMOGGA: A tense atmosphere prevailed at Sigehatti in Shivamogga town after three unidentified people attacked Prakash (25) around 11.30 pm on Monday night. The injured person was admitted to McGann Hospital and doctors said he is out of danger.
The incident took place at Bharmappa Nagar near Seegehatti in Shivamogga under Doddapete police limits. Three miscreants, who came on bikes, assaulted Prakash when he was standing in front of his house. Superintendent of Police, Mitun Kumar and Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Amte visited the hospital after the incident and convinced the crowd that had gathered there to disperse.
After the incident, a tense atmosphere prevailed in and around Bharmappa Nagar and additional police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas. It is said the miscreants were holding machetes in their hands. They were all wearing masks on their faces. They were abusing the RSS and Bajrang Dal in foul language.
The injured Prakash said, “I had gone to the bus stand with my friend. A group of miscreants attacked me suddenly when I had just reached home. I fell to the ground and they kicked me in the face and head and I could not even stand up. However, finally I escaped from them and went inside the house. They pelted stones at my house too. I do not have enmity with anybody. I participated in a rally held recently. I am not active in any of the Hindu outfits. I don’t even know why I was attacked.”
Some witnesses said that the group of six people were roaming near the residence of late Harsha in Sigehatti, Ravivarma Street, K R Puram and other areas, carrying swords and other lethal weapons.
Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar told mediapersons after meeting the injured Prakash, “We are on the lookout for the culprits and have recovered CCTV footage and are verifying it. Two incidents have occurred, but there is no need to panic. The situation is under control and we have deployed additional police officers.”
