KARWAR: The forest mobile squad of Uttara Kannada district has busted a network that was illegally hunting wild animals and selling their products with the arrest of two people.
The forest mobile squad team of Sirsi division conducted a raid after getting information about illegal transportation of wildlife products in Uppaleshwara village of Yallapur taluk. Yallapur’s Shankar Siddi, Narasimha Siddi are the arrested.
Officials have seized about 15.748 kg of pangolin scales, eight tiger claws, 12 leopard claws, two tiger teeth, three leopard teeth, six wild boar teeth and two wild buffalo horns along with one bike and scooter used for the act.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, and investigation has intensified to trace the source of this illegal wildlife trade network, where it is being transported and other persons involved in it. Some involved in the act are absconding, and a search operation is continuing for them.
Under the guidance of APCCF Manoj Tripathi and DCF Sandeep Suryavanshi of crime control unit, staff including ACF Raghavendra Naik and RFO Shilpa Naik took part in the operation.
