BENGALURU: Movement of some categories of vehicles have been banned on four major flyovers of city with effect from Tuesday. These include two-wheelers, three-wheelers and heavy vehicles and the new rule came into effect from 6 am on Tuesday.
The new rule comes into effect from Tuesday on Airport Road flyover, BGS flyover on Mysuru Road and the Peenya flyover. The ban on the above-mentioned categories vehicles on the Electronics City flyover will come into effect from September 11.
- Peenya elevated corridor – Autorickshaw & four-wheeled vehicles.
- Electronics City elevated corridor- Medium and heavy goods vehicles/autorickshaws.
- Double decker flyover – Heavy goods vehicles.
- International Airport Road – Bikes, auto and goods vehicles.
The major reasons for vehicle restriction on the flyovers include the road design and width, to reduce severity of accident impact, reduce traffic congestion caused by vehicle breakdowns, eliminate traffic congestion at flyover entry and exit points, traffic management in emergency situations, safety of pedestrians and bike riders and comprehensive road safety.
Which vehicles are banned on flyovers?
- BGS flyover, Mysuru Road – Heavy goods vehicle, complete ban 24 hours; Other goods vehicles and 3-wheel goods auto -Ban from 7 am to 11 am; Evening 4 pm to 10 pm.
- Peenya Flyover – Passenger auto and three-wheel goods auto completely banned 24 hours; Heavy & medium goods vehicle 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm.
- Electronics City Flyover – All goods vehicles banned from 6 am to 10 pm; Two-wheeler, passenger auto and goods auto: Complete ban 24 hours (Effective from September110.
- Double-decker flyover- Heavy goods vehicle-complete ban 24 hours.
- International Airport Road Flyover- Two-wheeler and autorickshaw complete ban for 24 hours; All goods vehicles banned from 6 am to 10 pm.
With the new rule coming into effect, traffic police were monitoring traffic near Peenya flyover on Friday and had installed barricades. Cars, and bikes were allowed to move while the traffic police were stopping movement of autos on the flyover and sending them to the service road.
