BAGALKOT, RAMANAGARA: More than 20 sheds were burnt to ashes in accidental fire at Iddalagi village Hunagund taluk, near Narayanapura on Sunday night. The temporary sheds has been erected for those displaced by the Narayanapura reservoir project. Materials worth lakhs were destroyed and the victims have demanded permanent shelter.
Due to the fire, food grains, and other household material in the sheds were all burnt to ashes and the tin sheets had fallen to ground in heaps. The fire extinguished by Hunagund fire brigade staff. The occupants of the sheds had gone to listen to Purana on account of Shravana and were were saved. If they had not gone and had been in shed, a major tragedy would have occurred. Fortunately, there was no loss of life.
The sheds were built in 2007-2009 when for the Narayanapura reservoir backwater flood victims who lost their houses as they got submerged then. They are still living in the temporary sheds built then. Though land was identified for the victims, no basic facility including water, electricity, or road has been provided. Due to this victims have also been conducting continuous dharna for last 117 days for permanent shelter.
In another incident at Bandebasappanadoddi village in Kanakapura taluk, a house was gutted in a fire late on Sunday night due to an electrical short circuit, and household items worth lakhs of rupees have been burnt to ashes. The fire broke out in the house of one Paramashivaiah, a resident of the village.
Late at night, suddenly an electrical short circuit occurred and fire broke out, engulfing the entire house in moments. Household items and daily use materials in the house were completely destroyed in the flames. Fortunately all those in the house escaped from danger to life. Fire brigade staff, who rushed to the spot, quickly extinguished the fire. A case has been registered in this regard under Sathanur police station jurisdiction.
