MYSURU: The managing committee meeting of Srikanteshwara temple in Nanjangud has ordered an inquiry after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in donation box (hundi) collections during the year 2024-25.
Nanjangud MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayana was shocked seeing the income and expenditure in the accounts. In 2024-25, the temple received an income of Rs 25.86 crore, and Rs 25.68 crore was spent, with only Rs 17.84 lakh saved. This has given rise to huge suspicion regarding the accounts presented by officials.
In previous years, normally more than Rs 4 crore used to be saved. In 2025-26 also, again about Rs 4 crore has been saved. But question are being raised as to why there is so little saving only in 2024-25.
In a year when there was only one-time prasadam distribution, Rs 73 lakh was spent. But in the next year when three-time prasadam was given, only Rs 46 lakh expenditure has been shown, which has caused suspicion.
Even though milk and curd offerings come from devotees, Rs 3.18 lakh has been shown for purchase of milk-curd. Other expenses include Rs 3.50 crore for laddu purchase, Rs 6.55 lakh for bananas, Rs 17.84 lakh for shamiana (pandals), Rs 37.88 lakh for parking, and Rs 29.89 lakh for CCTV repair.
