BELAGAVI: A huge drugs racket has been busted in Maharashtra, adjoining the Belagavi border. The Maharashtra Anti-Narcotics Task Force raided a poultry farm, located just 20 kilometers from Belagavi, where MDMA drugs were being manufactured illegally.
While officials seized materials worth crores of rupees, the family members claim they have done nothing wrong. The family is from Hajgoli village in Chandgad taluk of Kolhapur district. Narcotic substances were illegally stored in the poultry farm and drugs were supplied to Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka.
Based on information, a raid was conducted and officials seized drugs worth crores of rupees and materials of the manufacturing unit. In connection with the case, seven people, including two from Belagavi origin, have already been arrested. The names of Dawood Ibrahim’s associates and links to the underworld have cropped up in the case, and therefore Maharashtra police have taken this case seriously.
The NCB officials who conducted the raid, entered the poultry farm and found chemicals and machinery used to manufacture MDMA. During the raid, as much as 208 grams of drugs were seized. The total value of drugs, chemicals, and machinery is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore 13 lakhs.
Initial investigation has revealed that the drugs manufactured in Hajgoli were not limited to Maharashtra alone; they were being supplied to various parts including Karnataka and Goa, Bengaluru. Therefore, suspicion has also arisen whether a drug network having connections to three states was active right on the Belagavi border.
The investigation team is now looking into who is behind the drugs racket, where the chemicals and machinery required for drug manufacturing came from and to whom was it supplied in Karnataka and Goa.
