BENGALURU: After Namma Metro’s airport line, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is now planning to construct a signal-free corridor leading to the Kemepegowda International Airport Road (KIA).

Traffic from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal is mostly choc-a-block.

The state government has already given the green signal for the KR Puram-KIA Metro line. The city corporation has now invited suggestions from agencies to develop a signal-free corridor from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal — whether it should be an elevated corridor, a cement or steel bridge, or widening of the road.

Motorists have to cross four traffic junctions from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal flyover. Trough the signal-free corridor at Okalipuram has been only partially successful with slow-moving traffic, similar plans are being made for a corridor from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal.

Lokesh, Chief Engineer, BBMP.

“We are planning to construct a signal-free corridor from Chalukya junction to Hebbal for better traffic management, as it connects to the Kempegowda International Airport. We are thinking of having an elevated corridor and have called for a tender to conduct a feasibility report. The BDA has undertaken a project from Hebbal onwards. We intend to work from Chalukya Junction to Hebbal. We will thoroughly research everything and finalise the outline of the project”, said Lokesh, Chief Engineer, BBMP.
