DAVANAGERE: Two brothers exhumed the body of their mother three months after her death, alleging suspicion about her death, and took it to the district hospital for a second post-mortem examination. Following their act, a case has been registered against the two brothers for illegally digging up the grave at the Malebennur police station in Harihar taluk.
The brothers, Manjunath and Venkatesh, exhumed the body of their mother Eeramma from Adapura village in Harihar taluk. While bringing the body to the district hospital, they met with an accident and left the body by the roadside. Noticing a foul smell coming from the body, locals questioned the two brothers. The two brothers said their mother was murdered and that police had covered it up. The locals immediately informed Vidyanagar police. They also made a video of the body that was left by the roadside after the accident.
Eeramma had died under suspicious circumstances in Adapura on April 29. A complaint was filed by son Manjunath against 11 people at Malebennur police station suspecting neighbouring residents for the mother’s death. A post-mortem was done at Malebennur Hospital and the funeral was performed.
The brothers alleged that a hurried post-mortem was conducted to cover up the case. Therefore, demanding justice for their mother’s death, they brought the body for a second post-mortem three months later. The Malebennur police have registered a suo motu case against the brothers for illegally exhuming the mother’s body from the grave illegally and not following procedure.
Davanagere SP Shekhar H T said that on April 30, a case of unnatural death was registered in Adapura village after Eeramma (58) had died and an investigation was under way in this regard. “The deceased’s children suddenly exhumed the body and were bringing it to Davangere for a second post-mortem. After learning about it, police took the body into custody and sent it to the district hospital. Their allegation is that the investigation was not done properly. They had filed a case suspecting some people”.
“We would have informed them after the post-mortem and FSL report came. But they did this even before that. A case has been registered against them in this regard. The second post-mortem has already been conducted. The FSL report has come, but since the investigation is ongoing it cannot be made public. The investigation will be conducted impartially according to their allegations:, said SP Shekhar H T.
