BENGALURU: A section of the 480-metre-long Sumanahalli flyover, built in 2010, which caved in on September 20, will remain out of bounds for traffic for another 15 days to allow the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to complete the repair work.
The carriageway on the Sumanahalli flyover caved in for the second time in two years, exposing the poor road quality work and maintenance. A portion of the flyover leading to Dr Rajkumar Samadhi from the Nagarbhavi side had caved in and gaping holes were repeatedly appearing. The concrete has been relaid, but the officials have decided to asphalt the flyover to avoid further damage. The road will not be opened to traffic for another 15 days until the entire flyover is declared safe for travel.
Palike officials said that the flyover will be inspected again and after the completion of all the work and only then will it be open to the public. The flyover is helpful for the public to travel towards Yeshwathpur, Goraguntepalya, and Bangalore University.
“The damaged part has been fixed and the entire 480-m stretch will be rechecked. If any damage is found on the flyover, it will be repaired, and in another 15 days it will be opened to the public, “said Ravindra P N, BBMP Special Commissioner (Projects).
