BALLARI: A vehicle transporting rice was waylaid by a group of youths at Avinamadagu village in Sandur taluk, who threatened the driver and extorted money.
Hanumanthappa had purchased three bags of Sona Masoori rice from a friend in Kodalur village and was transporting them in a vehicle through Avinamadagu village. At that time, five youths including Parashuram and Rajesh Hegde suddenly attacked the vehicle.

The youth threatened the driver, saying that if he wanted to take rice through their village, he must pay Rs 30,000. They snatched the driver’s mobile phone and Rs 5,000 that he had with him. They also intimidated him and made him transfer money via PhonePe. The driver immediately informed the police.
The police, who arrived at the spot, took the youths to task and took them to the station and filed a case. A case has been registered at Toranagal police station against five people including Parashuram and Rajesh Hegde for extorting money by threatening.
