BENGALURU: A woman, who was nine months pregnant was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Hale Chandapura in Anekal taluk on the outskirts of the city on Saturday. The deceased Savitha (21) has a three-year-old child and her husband Hamaraj has been arrested.

Savitha, originally from Nepal, and her husband Hemaraj had come to Chandapura in search of work and have been living in Chandapura for the past four years. The family members allege that Savitha’s husband Hemaraj murdered her. The Suryanagar police have taken Hemaraj into custody.

Hemaraj would drink daily and pick quarrels with Savitha. On Friday too, he came home drunk and an argument ensued. According to Hemaraj, Savitha later hanged herself from the ceiling fan with her dupatta. However, her body was found on the bed, leading to suspicion.

A relative, Paramraj Joshi, said they are discussing with Savitha’s family as the three-year-old child will be orphaned if the father Hemaraj goes to jail. “We suspect the husband, but there is no one to look after the child if he goes to jail”, he said.

A case has been registered at Suryanagar police station and further investigation is under way to determine whether it was murder, or suicide.
