KARWAR: Six people were killed and three others injured after an Force Toofan MUV collided with a truck near Arabail Ghat in Yellapur taluk early on Thursday.
Police said all the deceased were from Dharwad and were on a trip to Dharmasthala and other places. The passenger vehicle was on its way towards Ankola when the accident occurred.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as the driver Sanjay Angadi (33), Basavaraj (48), Abhishek Mallesh Madabhavi (28), Akshay Marlannavar (26), Abhishek Mallesh Madbhavi (26), and Manjunath Chulaki (32). The injured Sachin, Shivaraj and Channabasavaiah were shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi after preliminary treatment at Yellapur. The bodies of the dead were shifted to the Yellapur government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police Superintendent Deepan, deputy commissioner Lakshmi Priya and other officials visited the spot in the light of frequent accidents and held discussions with NHAI officials. For the last 20 years, four-laning of the road has been held up due to conflict between the forest department and the NHAI. The highway sees heavy traffic all through and is an important link between the coast and the plains and witnesses about 25 accidents every month.
