MYSURU: The special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was carried out in groups on July 1 at Narasimharaja constituency in the city on July 1. However, the incident came to light only now. This comes on the back of allegations that SIR was conducted in groups in Bengaluru South district also.

At N R constituency in Mysuru, officials did not conduct the SIR process by going door to door and instead it was carried out at polling booth centres and public places. Local leaders released the video of the SIR process being conducted in groups.

Reacting to this, Mysuru-Kodagu BJP MP Yaduveer Wadiyar said, “In N R constituency, voter list revision is not happening as per rules. The minority population is higher in the N R constituency and the revision is being done there in groups. BJP workers are not being allowed to go to N R constituency by the minorities there. The booth-level officers (BLOs) are also not being appointed from our party.

“If BJP’s BLOs go to the N R constituency, they are given death threats. The government should carry out the voter list revision with proper security. Central forces should be deployed in the N R constituency. BJP workers are not even being allowed to form booth committees. We have filed a complaint with the DC against this” he said..

“Suddenly, one lakh voters have increased in the N R constituency. What is the reason for so many voters increasing?Forgery of documents is also taking place there. The voter revision process in the N R constituency is not being done properly. There is a risk of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants also becoming voters. The SIR process is being conducted by sitting inside mosques”, he alleged.

Former minister Sa Ra Mahesh, speaking at a press conference in Mysuru, said, “In three wards of K R Nagar, someone else is still filling SIR applications on behalf of voters. The BLOs themselves are paying Rs 50 per application and getting workers to fill the forms. The BLOs say they can’t go to every house in the heat, so they are paying money and getting others to do the work”.

Sa Ra Mahesh also reacted angrily to Home Minister Priyank Kharge’s statement defending the mass voter list revision. “The Home Minister has no knowledge of the law. A person who knows the law would not speak the way the Home Minister has. No other minister is speaking on this. Why is the Home Minister defending something that is illegal? Why is the Home Minister so scared the moment SIR is mentioned?”, he questioned.
