People, who had been fed up with potholes all these days, are now making strenuous efforts to save their lives from tree branches — both vehicle riders and pedestrians are struggling. They are moving around in fear for their lives.

On the road in Basaveshwar Nagar, branches from four-five trees have fallen and got stuck among cables. The dangerous branches hanging over the cables could prove fatal if they fall on two-wheeler riders, and they are moving around in fear.

In this area, there is a government high school along and six to seven private schools. Parents who go to drop off and pick up hundreds of children from school are gripped by fear. They are afraid when the branches might fall on the children or on them. The officials concerned should immediately clear the dangerous trees and prevent possible mishaps, they said.

Jagadish Patil, a resident of the locality, said, “Despite complaints to BBMP, the tree branches have been hanging for 2-3 years. If there is wind, they will sway and pose a danger. We heard about a person’s death after a tree branch fell on him a few days ago. A branch fell on a new vehicle a few days ago and it was completely damaged. The authorities should do something about it soon”.

“The authorities don’t act until something untoward happens, then they will come and chop the trees. If we lodge a complaint, they just point fingers. In the last monsoon, season, branches had fallen all across the locality. The officials are not bothered about people’s lives”, said Venkatesh, another resident.
