BENGALURU: A man brutally murdered his girlfriend on Pipeline Road in Mahalakshmi Layout on Sunday night. The victim is Anjali (23) while the accused Rajeev was nabbed by the police.

Anjali and Rajeev got acquainted while working at the same place for three-four years, and later their friendship turned into love. Rajeev asked to marry Anjali, but since he had a criminal background, Anjali’s family opposed the marriage.

It is said that Rajeev was frustrated after failing to get consent for marriage several times. Recently, Anjali too had given in to her parents’ pressure. Moreover, she had started avoiding Rajeev.

On Sunday night, Rajeev took Anjali out for dinner, and during this time he again brought up the marriage issue. An argument escalated into a quarrel between the two. Enraged by this, Rajeev allegedly stabbed Anjali in the neck with a knife and murdered her.

Locals immediately admitted Anjali to the hospital, but she succumbed to the injuries. On receiving information about the incident, Mahalakshmi Layout police rushed to the spot arrested the accused Rajeev within a few hours. Anjali’s body was shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital for postmortem examination and later handed over to the family.
