DAVANAGERE: A woman, who was excessively drunk, abused, assaulted and behaved indecently with a woman police sub-inspector and other staff who were conducting drunk and drive checks, obstructing their duty, in front of Bindas Bar on Shamanur Road in Davanagere late on Thursday night.
Around 11.30 pm on Thursday, PSI Shakuntala of Davanagere South traffic police station, along with staff, was conducting vehicle checks for drunk driving. At that time, they stopped a woman who was driving a black colour Mahindra Thar SUV rashly. It was found that the woman in the car, Preethi, was over-drunk.
Sub-inspector Shakuntala tried to give Preethi an alcometer test. Enraged by this, Preethi shouted “Who are you to check me,” pushed down the testing machine from the PSI’s hand, and hit the PSI hard in the stomach. She also abused the police staff in foul language and behaved indecently.
Locals and police recorded video of the woman creating a ruckus, and a tense situation prevailed for some time. A case has been registered at Vidyanagar police station under Sections 121(1), 132, and 352 of BNS 2023, and the accused has been arrested and sent to jail.
